ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves granted the wish of a Georgia teen with several genetic disorders to spend the day with the all-star team.
Joshua Lester, 14, and his family met the Braves and watched them practice before Wednesday's game, which was postponed until Thursday.
The Braves teamed up with Make-A-Wish Georgia, granting the teen's wish.
"Joshua has been through a lot these past couple of years medically," his mother, Kristin Lester, said. And for him to be out here—I mean, all these players that he watches every single night on the TV—it's above and beyond. Words cannot even describe how awesome this is for Joshua."
The 14-year-old also got to meet with Braves relief pitcher Tyler Matzek in a behind-the-scenes visit to the team's bullpen. They also enjoyed dinner at the Delta Club.
His mother said this wasn't the first time Joshua met Matzek. She said he was acknowledged last year during the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta night.
"Tyler presented him with the side jersey out on the field right before the game and everything. So it's not his first time, but he will do this every single day if you let him," she said.
Joshua and his family were escorted onto the field to interact with the team and were supposed to watch the Braves face off against the New York Mets. Unfortunately, the game was postponed due to the line of storms that moved through metro Atlanta on Wednesday night.
Following the tour, Joshua will be escorted onto the field to interact with the team and watch batting practice alongside Braves coaches ahead of the Atlanta Braves – New York Mets game.
