Former Brave Will Smith first ever to win 3 straight World Series with 3 separate teams

The Newnan native was in the Texas Rangers bullpen looking on as they won their first World Series title in franchise history.

ATLANTA — Braves fans will never forget the moment that Newnan native Will Smith recorded the final out against the Houston Astros to capture Atlanta's 2021 World Series championship nearly two years ago to the day.

Then in 2022, Smith was traded from the Braves to Astros near the deadline -- the Astros went on to beat the Phillies and win the World Series a season ago.

And then on Wednesday night, Smith was in the Texas Rangers bullpen looking on as they won their first World Series title in franchise history.

But for Smith, he made some history of his own -- history that puts him in exclusive company. He became the first player in Major League Baseball history to win three consecutive World Series championships for three different teams, according to Sports Illustrated.

So props to Will on what has been an outstanding three-year run. Braves fans will never forget the dominant 2021 postseason he had that culminated in him recording the final out of the game in Houston. Perhaps the Braves need to get back the lucky charm who seems to keep on winning.
