Atlanta Hawks draw biggest home opener crowd since 2016

Saturday night's game drew an unofficial attendance of 17,078, the most since the 2016-2017 season home opener.

ATLANTA — The Hawks' season is already off to a big start.

The team saw the biggest home opener crowd Saturday night in three years, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The outlet reports Saturday night's game drew an unofficial attendance of 17,078, the most since the 2016-2017 season home opener which drew 19,049.

The Chronicle reports the Hawks have seen steady growth in home opener attendance, with 16, 220 two seasons ago and 16,705 last season.

The outlet attributed that growth in excitement over Hawks newcomer Trae Young, who had a stellar performance in front of the sold-out crowd. The 21-year-old is in his second season with the Atlanta team.

Young and the Hawks hosted the Philadelphia 76ers Monday night, but fell to the out-of-town team in the last few seconds of the game.
