ATLANTA — The Atlanta Hawks has signed Jalen Johnson to a contract extension, the team announced Monday.

Details of the agreement were not disclosed in the Hawks news release. However, ESPN reports Johnson agreed to a five-year, $150 million extension with the franchise.

The team said the contract extension begins with the 2025-26 season. The Hawks also shared the news on social media.

The 6-9 forward joined the Hawks in 2021 as the 20th pick in the NBA Draft that year.

“Jalen Johnson embodies the characteristics we look for as an organization, both on and off the court,” said Hawks General Manager Landry Fields. “He has shown continuous improvement each year and has the character and the work ethic to continue to grow his game. He has developed into a significant part of our team and we’re thrilled to continue his development in Atlanta.”

His teammate Trae Young posted a photo on the X platform Monday of the two, sharing that "the work always Pay$ off!"

Last season, the 22-year-old averaged career highs in several areas, including points per game (16.0), rebounds per game (8.7) and assists per game (3.6).

Johnson scored 10-or-more points in 47 of his 56 games played during the 2023-24 campaign, including at least 20 points in 16 games. He also owns 20 career double-doubles, with 19 coming last season

In the Hawks win over Detroit in April, Johnson clinched his first career triple-double, finishing with 28 points, 14 rebounds, 11 assists, four steals and one block in 37 minutes of action.
