ATHENS, GA. -- What looked to be a slow start to Dawg Night recruiting weekend has turned into a firestorm of commitments for the Georgia Bulldogs. After news broke early Saturday afternoon that safety Deontai Williams was possibly switching his commitment from Florida to Georgia, even bigger news emerged that evening.
And we mean big.
Class of 2016 offensive tackle Ben Cleveland announced on Twitter that it "Feels great to officially be a Georgia Bulldog." The 6-foot-6, 327-pound rising junior was one of the Bulldogs top targets on the offensive line. Cleveland is a physical freak and turns heads wherever he goes. He was one of the few underclassmen invited to the prestigious Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Baltimore earlier this summer.
Only 15 years old, Cleveland is projected to be one of the biggest offensive line talents ever to come out of the Peach State.
Moments after Cleveland tweeted his commitment, the Bulldogs got even bigger news. Jacob Eason, one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, dropped this bombshell.
"I have officially made my verbal commitment to play football for the University of Georgia" Eason tweeted.
The 6-foot-5, 207-pound quarterback lives in Lake Stevens, Wash., some 2717 miles from Athens, Ga. Eason recently visited Alabama and Florida State, both of whom were recruiting him heavily. The rising junior also had offers from 14 other schools.
Cleveland and Eason spent time together at the Rivals camp in Baltimore and at Dawg Night the two were practically inseparable. The fact that they committed within moments of each other is telling.
When the day started on Saturday, Georgia did not have any commitments for the Class of 2016. Now the Bulldogs have landed two of their top targets in that class, both of whom will work to pull in other elite prospects. Both are rated as five-star players by various recruiting services.
