ATLANTA — Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson teamed up with Mercedes-Benz USA to help build Little Free Libraries during National Volunteer Week.
Together, volunteers in Atlanta and Jacksonville, Florida, will build 175 book-sharing boxes. The boxes will then be filled with thousands of donated books to be installed in communities with low access to books, including in Atlanta.
Falcons running back Bijan Robinson joined the Atlanta team on Wednesday to help build the library boxes. He used his football skills to test his carpentry skills.
"When you're in football, you gotta learn the plays and different coverages... so when I got here, trying to build the library, all they had to do was like, teach me the way for a sec and I started to pick it up as I started to keep going on," Robinson said. "So, I think that's something really powerful that can really help out these kids."
The community event was part of MBUSA's national corporate social responsibility program.
"It's definitely special for us because our mission is to empower the next generation, and we can't do that without our community," said Lauren Alford, who is part of MBUSA's program. "So to have partners like Bijan Robinson to just help get people here today and help get people excited as they're really giving back and building these library boxes means the world to us."
