ATLANTA — The Atlanta Falcons aren't wasting time in reshaping their roster.
On Wednesday, just a few hours after formally dropping cornerback Robert Alford, news broke of the Falcons informing kicker Matt Bryant of his impending release.
The source for this surprising nugget? Bryant himself ... via social media.
UPDATE: The Falcons have confirmed the kicker's previous announcement, saying they had declined to pick up Bryant's 2019 option.
The 43-year-old Bryant had been with the Falcons for 10 full seasons. During this span, he had averaged only 2.9 field-goal misses per year; and for 2018, Bryant connected on 20 of 21 field goals.
Rock-steady production; and yet, not enough to secure another year with the club.
Bryant, the franchise's all-time points leader, had a seemingly workable salary of $2.45 million for the upcoming season, begging the questions:
a) Are the Falcons readying for sweeping changes this offseason, perhaps involving every playmaker not named Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman, Austin Hooper or Calvin Ridley?
b) Will the club attempt to sign kicker Giorgio Tavecchio to a long-term deal?
