Christian McCaffrey explains why 'bitter' Cam Newton wasn't invited to his wedding

Newton took the snub in stride, but the situation was made even funnier when McCaffrey clapped back on Instagram.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Panthers superstar Christian McCaffrey recently got married and the guest list was a who's who of the NFL. With one notable exception: Cam Newton.

McCaffrey and Newton were teammates in Carolina for three years and are friends, or at least on good terms. That is until Newton didn't get an invite to CMC's wedding. Newton addressed this on a recent episode of his "4th & 1" podcast, saying he was bitter about the snub.

"Damn, C-Mac, I couldn't get an invite," Newton joked. "Is it because of the Brock Purdy beef? Was Brock there?"

Newton went on to say he would've crashed the wedding had he shown up. But there's also another problem. Newton admitted he probably wouldn't have been able to make it anyway.

"I don't know if I would've been able to go but at least wanted to say, 'Nah, bruh I can't make it,'" Newton shared. "I at least wanted to give you a present or something."

Newton pointed out that former Panthers tight end Greg Olsen was there, sharing a photo of the ex-teammates during his show.

"Finally, like I'm really bitter," Newton laughed. "Now somebody can say, 'You sound like you're bitter.' This time I am bitter!"

McCaffrey had good reason not to invite Newton. He apparently can't get ahold of him. McCaffrey shared a conversation he had with Olsen on Newton's Instagram post.

"This was a great night, but you know what would've made it better? If Cam were here. I haven't got a text back in 4 years. In fact, they just go green now."

Newton, never shy to hop in his mentions, asked McCaffrey which phone number his old teammate had saved and congratulated McCaffrey on his wedding.
