ATLANTA, Ind. — The Super Bowl may be the main event in town, but it seems like Atlanta's biggest story has more to do with an Atlanta rapper - who apparently isn't.
News spread Sunday afternoon that 21 Savage, a rapper based in Atlanta, had been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying a visa for more than a decade.
ICE spokesperson Bryan Cox said that the Grammy-nominated rapper who had just recently played a Super Bowl show in Atlanta was actually from the United Kingdom.
No one seems to have the answer of where he was born in the U.K. (keep in mind that the U.K. has many territories that aren't Britain itself) but that didn't stop the internet from making jokes.
As is often the case, the reaction on Twitter and other platforms was pretty interesting. Of course, there were the funny memes.
And then came outright confusion. Many fans were shocked to find out that a rapper they thought they knew
And others are just coming to grips with the rapper doing British stuff for the first time or the reaction from Brits.
But for some, the response was a little more serious. Fellow rapper Meek Mill was among them.
21 Savage is now being held in ICE custody and faces removal from the U.S> in a federal immigration court. ICE added that the rapper was also convicted on felony drug charges in 2014 in Fulton County.
