Meet the UGA-connected athletes competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics

These Bulldogs are set to showcase their talents across a variety of sports, bringing their UGA pride to the international arena.

As the Paris Olympics approach, athletes with ties to the University of Georgia (UGA) are gearing up to represent their countries on the world stage starting next Thursday. 

These Bulldogs are set to showcase their talents across a variety of sports, bringing their UGA pride to the international arena. Here’s a look at the athletes with UGA connections who will compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

  1. Aaliyah Butler (Track and Field, 400 meters) - A UGA sophomore, Butler will make her first Olympic appearance with the 1st round on August 5.
  2. Adaejah Hodge (Track and Field, Women's 200m): Incoming UGA freshman. Round one for their first event is on August 4. 
  3. Ana da Silva (Track and Field, Shot Put) - A current UGA senior, da Silva will make her first Olympic appearance representing Brazil. Qualification begins on August 8.
  4. Anna Hall (Track and Field, Heptathlon) - Hall spent two seasons at UGA (2020 and 2021) before transferring. She will make her first Olympic appearance, with the event beginning on August 8.
  5. Anthony Edwards (Basketball, Men's) - An Atlanta native who attended UGA, Edwards will make his first Olympic appearance. Group play begins on July 27.
  6. Cejhae Greene (Track and Field, Men's 100 meters) - A UGA graduate, Greene did not medal in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. The preliminary round is on August 3.
  7. Chanice Porter (Track and Field, Long Jump) - A UGA graduate, Porter did not medal in Tokyo 2020. Qualification begins on August 6.
  8. Chase Kalisz (Swimming, 400m Individual Medley) - A three-time NCAA champion at UGA, Kalisz won silver in Rio 2016 and gold in Tokyo 2020. Heats begin on July 28.
  9. Croix Bethune (Soccer, Team Alternate) - From Alpharetta and an All-American at UGA, Bethune will make her first Olympic appearance with the first match on July 25.
  10. Csenge Backsay (Women's Gymnastics) - An incoming UGA freshman, Backsay will make her first Olympic appearance representing Hungary. Qualification begins on July 28.
  11. Denzel Comenentia (Track and Field, Hammer Throw) - A UGA graduate, Comenentia will make his first Olympic appearance representing the Netherlands. Qualification begins on August 2.
  12. Ellen Perez (Women's Tennis, Doubles) - A former All-American at UGA, Perez will compete for Australia. The 1st round doubles begin on July 27.
  13. Ieva Maluka (Swimming, Women's 100m & 200m Freestyle) - An incoming UGA transfer, Maluka did not medal in Tokyo 2020. Heats begin on July 28 (200m) and July 30 (100m).
  14. Jan Zielinski (Men's Tennis, Doubles)—A two-time All-American at UGA, Zielinski will compete for Poland. The first-round doubles begin on July 27.
  15. Janek Oiglane (Track and Field, Men's Decathlon)—The current UGA assistant track and field coach will represent Estonia at the event, which begins on August 2.
  16. Jasmine Moore (Track and Field, Long Jump & Triple Jump) - At UGA for two seasons before transferring, Moore will compete in both the long jump and triple jump. She is the first U.S. woman to qualify in both events in the same year. Qualifications begin on August 2 (triple jump).
  17. Javier Acevedo (Swimming, 100m Backstroke) - A UGA alum, Acevedo will represent Team Canada. Despite not medaling in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, he’s hopeful for a strong performance in Paris. Heats begin on July 28.
  18. Jehlani Gordon (Track and Field, Men's 4x100m Relay) - A current UGA freshman, Gordon will make his first Olympic appearance representing Jamaica. Round one is August 8.
  19. Johannes Erm (Track and Field, Men's Decathlon) - A UGA graduate, Erm did not medal in Tokyo 2020. The event begins on August 2.
  20. Karel Tilga (Track and Field, Men's Decathlon) - A national champion in the decathlon while at UGA, Tilga did not medal in Tokyo 2020. The event begins on August 2.
  21. Keturah Orji (Track and Field, Triple Jump) - A UGA graduate living in Atlanta, Orji finished fourth in the 2016 Rio Games, just missing a bronze medal. Her qualification begins on August 2.
  22. Luca Urlando (Swimming, 200m Butterfly) - A UGA senior, Urlando will make his first Olympic appearance. Heats commence on July 30.
  23. Maria Lourdes Carle (Women's Tennis, Singles) - Played one season at UGA (2018-19) before turning pro. She will represent Argentina. Matches begin on July 27.
  24. Marie-Therese Obst (Track and Field, Javelin) - Obst, a UGA graduate, will make her first Olympic appearance representing Norway. Qualification starts on August 7.
  25. Nic Fink (Swimming, 100m Breaststroke)—Fink, a UGA graduate and Georgia Tech graduate, will compete again after participating in Tokyo 2020. Heats start on July 27. He is married to Melanie Margalis, a former UGA teammate who won gold in Rio 2016.
  26. Sanaa Frederick (Track and Field, 4x100m Relay) - A recent graduate of Druid Hills HS who will attend UGA in the fall, Frederick will make her first Olympic appearance representing Trinidad and Tobago. Round one is August 8.
  27. Sepp Straka (Golf) - A UGA graduate, Straka finished 10th in individual stroke play in Tokyo 2020. He will represent Austria, with the first round beginning on August 1.
  28. Shaunae Miller-Uibo (Track and Field, 4x400 Mixed Relay) - A UGA graduate, Miller-Uibo has won gold in the 400m in both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Although injured and missing her signature event, she may run in the relay starting on August 2.
  29. Sole Frederick (Track and Field, 4x100m Relay) - A recent graduate of Druid Hills HS who will attend UGA in the fall, Frederick will make her first Olympic appearance representing Trinidad and Tobago. Round one is August 8.
  30. Stephanie Ratcliffe (Track and Field, Hammer Throw) - A current UGA grad student, Ratcliffe will make her first Olympic appearance representing Australia. Qualification begins on August 4.
  31. Steven Insixiengmay (Swimming, Men's 100m Breaststroke) - A current UGA sophomore, Insixiengmay, will represent Laos. Heats begin on July 27.
  32. Tara Davis-Woodhall (Track and Field, Long Jump) - Davis-Woodhall spent one season at UGA (2018) before transferring. She finished sixth in the long jump in Tokyo 2020. Qualification begins on August 6.
  33. Tatiana Gusin (Track and Field, Women's High Jump) - A UGA graduate, Gusin will make her first Olympic appearance representing Greece. Qualification begins on August 2.
