TYRONE, Ga. — Just a little over three months ahead of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, an athlete and two-time gold medalist is gearing up for an event at his former high school in Tyrone.
It's the seventh year that Sandy Creek High School will hold the Christian Taylor Invitation, named after and organized by the man himself. The event is scheduled for March 23 and is already full.
"This is an opportunity to give aspiring athletes a taste of what it's like to compete at the next level," Christian Taylor said.
The Fayetteville native said his vision extends beyond mere competition; it's about nurturing the next generation of track and field stars and instilling in them the mindset required for success on the world stage.
Against the backdrop of Sandy Creek High School, where Taylor himself honed his skills and made unforgettable memories, the invitational takes on added meaning.
"And so, a lot of memories, fond memories," he said. And, you know, I come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas break and had the opportunity to train there myself."
As anticipation builds for the Paris Olympics, the Christian Taylor Invitational shows it's not just about the races and competitions; it's about fostering a community of support and mentorship that transcends borders and resonates with athletes of all ages.
"I'm so proud of what the school is doing," Taylor said.
