PARIS, France — As you watch the excitement of each nation's floats pass during the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, you may wonder just how many countries have athletes competing in the 2024 Olympics.
According to the Olympics website, athletes represent 206 territories. Those territories are then represented.
Officials have explained that each athlete actually represents one of the 206 National Olympic Committees. Each committee is a part of the International Olympic Committee.
Officials added that those committees "develop, promote and protect the Olympic Movement in their respective countries, in accordance with the Olympic Charter."
