RIO DE JANERIO (KSDK) - It may only be a qualifying round, but a piece of Olympic history was made in the women’s hammer throw Friday as Moscow Mills native Deanna Price and fellow Team USA member Amber Campbell became the first ever American women to make it to an Olympic final in the event.
At the same time, in the same competition, the other end of the emotional spectrum for another St. Louisan as McCluer High grad Gwen Berry missed the cut by less than half a meter.
Deanna Price said she could see and even hear her parents in the stand of the Olympic Stadium in Rio as she was competing and that having them there was “calming.”
Price competes in the final on Monday August 15th.
