Atlanta's own Gabby Thomas shares special moment with boyfriend after winning gold

Thomas celebrated with her boyfriend after winning gold in the women's 200m final.

PARIS, France — Gabby Thomas soaked in the moment as soon as she crossed the finish line after winning gold in the women's 200m final on Tuesday.

After celebrating on the track, Thomas ran over to the stands, where she celebrated with her boyfriend with a hug and a selfie following her incredible achievement.

On Monday, the Harvard graduate sprinted to the finish line, seamlessly clearing other Olympians during the 200m semifinals. She ran a first-place time of 21.86 and advanced to the finals. Then on Tuesday, she seamlessly won the women's 200m gold. According to the university, it is the first time a female has won a gold medal at the Olympics.

More about this athlete: Gabby Thomas was born in Atlanta and is a distinguished American track and field athlete specializing in 100- and 200m sprints. 

The 27-year-old medaled twice at the Tokyo Olympics, winning bronze individually in the 200 meters and silver as part of the 4x100m relay team.

In 2023, she secured silver in the 200m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, alongside gold in the U.S. women's 4x100m relay team.

Raised in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, she honed her skills at the Williston Northampton School before pursuing higher education. Thomas graduated from Harvard University in 2019 with a focus on neurobiology and global health, later obtaining a master's degree in epidemiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
