Gabby Thomas to begin training for 2028 LA Olympics after six weeks of downtime

On Tuesday, she appeared on the TODAY show announcing her plans to train for the next Olympics.

ATLANTA — Everything Atlanta's Gabby Thomas touches turns to gold, and she's not done just yet.

Thomas showed out during the 2024 Games, taking home a whopping three gold medals in every event she competed in. She won with the fastest time in the women's 200m race, 21.83. She then was part of the relay team for the 4x100m relay and 4x400 m relay.

On Tuesday, she appeared on the TODAY show announcing her plans to begin training for the 2028 L.A. Olympics with just six weeks of downtime.

She expressed her excitement to return back to the States after her performance and receive so much support.

"It's such an amazing feeling. I was out there representing Team USA and to be greeted by all these amazing people and friendly smiles back in America is incredible."

When she is not training to win gold medals, Thomas volunteers at a health clinic in Austin, Texas. She received a degree in neurobiology and a master's in public health.

"I think Gabby should run for office," TODAY's show Hoda Kotb joked during the segment with Thomas after hearing about her life outside of the sport.

Thomas said she is still soaking in her three for three win that's slowly starting to set in.

"I mean, I'm still soaking it all in, but last night, I definitely had the ability to do that. When I was in Paris, I got to celebrate with my friends and family before hopping on the plane over here and coming back to America, but I think I will use the next few weeks to really soak it all in and realize what I did," she said on the TODAY show.

During her downtime, Thomas is planning to spend some time with her dog and friends and hoping to plan a little vacation before she gets back to the grind of striving for gold again in 2028.
