Brody Malone announces he's getting married next year after Team USA takes home medal in gymnastics

He announced his nuptials in an interview with 11Alive's Cheryl Preheim on Tuesday.

PARIS, France — After the highs of taking home his very first medal, Georgia's most promising Olympian, Brody Malone, announced he would be getting married in the upcoming year.

He announced his nuptials in an interview with 11Alive's Cheryl Preheim on Tuesday.

"What's next? I'm getting married next year, so that's next on my agenda," Malone stated.

He spoke briefly about his dynamic with his team, which helped them win a bronze medal. According to NBC News, it's the first time since 2008 that Team USA men's gymnastics made it to the podium, making history. They were behind Japan and China.

"It's incredible we all come from an NCAA program. So, bringing that energy is how we learn how to compete for a team and be brothers," he added. "It's pretty easy to transfer to competitions like this, and that's exactly what we did, and it made it so much more fun."

Malone did not have such a great start at the beginning of the competition. During the qualifiers, Malone had a disappointing session, finished far behind his teammates Saturday and will likely not be up for an individual medal.

On Monday, he showed up for his team, steadily earning points and helping his team win the bronze medal.

As he spoke with Cheryl Preheim, he stated that winning a medal after his near-catastrophic injury was incredible.

"It's pretty awesome," Malone stated. "I mean, especially given everything that has happened last year with my knee injury. It's been incredible. It's been a crazy journey coming back to this point. A little over a year ago, I was learning how to walk again for the second time, and here I am with a bronze medal around my neck on the podium with my team, and it's just incredible."

He stated that his faith and having a strong support system give him the motivation to keep going and strive for greatness.

"I mean, the thing that keeps me going through all of that is my faith in God. Being able to lean on him when times get hard is everything," he added. Not only that, but just having my family, my teammates, I mean, you know, we have a brotherhood. Just having so many people who are that close in my life, it's just been amazing, and I'm so grateful for all of it."

Malone gave a message to younger generations looking to compete in the Olympics.

"I mean, my message to them is to work hard, and you can make anything happen. It's been my dream since I was little to bring home an Olympic medal as a team, and we set that goal, and here we are, and we made it happen."
