PARIS, France — Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Maicel Uibo's love story truly encapsulates the spirit of the Olympic Games: bringing together athletes from across the world. However, the pair have taken it a step further, now being married and having a son.

The pair met during their freshman year at the University of Georgia, where they were both on the track team, and soon began dating. Miller-Uibo runs the 400m, while Uibo in the past competed in the decathlon.

Both competed in their respective events at the 2016 Rio games and the 2020 Tokyo games. Miller-Uibo took home two golds, while Uibo did not do quite as well. This year, Uibo is not competing, but is in Paris to cheer on his wife.

If she's able to run despite recent injuries, Miller-Uibo would this year have the possibility to be the first woman to ever win back-to-back-to-back golds in the 400m.

But the Olympics aren't the only competition the duo has taken on together: In an unforgettable moment at the 2019 Doha World Athletics Championships, they simultaneously earned silver medals.

Miller-Uibo's fight for another Olympic could begin on Sunday. Round 1 is on Aug. 5, the repechage round is on Aug. 6, semifinals are on Aug. 7 and finals are on Aug. 9. It's not yet clear if she'll indeed run -- she is currently on the entries list, but did not compete in the 4x400m mixed relay as originally planned due to injuries.

A year after competing in their first Olympics together, the two got married.

"It was the happiest day of my life so far," Uibo said on the Olympic Channel podcast. "I was very happy that day and ever since then."

Miller-Uibo publicly announced she was pregnant in early February 2023 and gave birth to their son, Maicel Jr., on April 20, 2023.
