After two weeks of waiting, Chris Kinney finally gets to compete in PyeongChang.
Kinney and his teammates on Team USA will compete in the four-man bobsled beginning Friday at the Olympic Sliding Centre. The first two runs are on Friday followed by two more on Saturday. The four times are combined to make the final standings.
The Athens, Georgia native is a pusher. The pilot of his team is Nick Cunningham. Cunningham has competed in the last two Olympics. This is Kinney's Olympic debut.
Kinney was born in Athens, Georgia and lived in Stockbridge. He is a graduate of Georgetown University. That's where he competed in track & field. He worked in Japan for four years, and he attempted to make it to the Summer Olympics. However, after a discussion with Summer and Winter Olympian Lolo Jones, Kinney decided to try bobsled.
The bobsled team's best time in training was 49.86, but consistently was over 50. Austria's team led by Benjamin Maier had the fastest time in six heats of training with 49.07.
There are three U.S. teams in the competition. Team USA has medaled in the four-man the last two Olympics, winning gold in Vancouver and bronze in Sochi. They were piloted by the late Steven Holcomb who passed away last year.
