After two weeks of waiting, Chris Kinney finally began competing in PyeongChang.
Kinney and his teammates, led by pilot Nick Cunningham, finished 19th in the four-man bobsled on Saturday. They went into the final day in 20th.
The team finished with a combined time of 3:18.54 from their four runs. They were 2.69 seconds behind the winners.
Germany's team piloted by Francesco Friedrich won the gold medal with a time of 3:15.85. Another German team and South Korea tied for the silver medal.
The American team finished their first run in 49.60 seconds. That was 1.06 seconds behind the leader and put them 20th on the leaderboard. They were able to shave .10 seconds off their next run. Their third run was 49.74 and fourth was 49.70.
Kinney, an Athens, Georgia native, is a pusher. The pilot of his team is Cunningham. Cunningham has competed in the last two Olympics. This is Kinney's Olympic debut.
Kinney lived in Stockbridge and is a graduate of Georgetown University. That's where he competed in track & field. He worked in Japan for four years, and he attempted to make it to the Summer Olympics. However, after a discussion with Summer and Winter Olympian Lolo Jones, Kinney decided to try bobsled.
There are three U.S. teams in the competition. Team USA has medaled in the four-man the last two Olympics, winning gold in Vancouver and bronze in Sochi. They were piloted by the late Steven Holcomb who passed away last year.
