Metro Atlanta school gets pumped up to cheer on first-time Olympian Jasmine Jones in Paris Games

Greater Atlanta Christian School announced their excitement in an encouraging video on social media, cheering on their very own, Jasmine Jones.

ATLANTA — A metro Atlanta school is ready to cheer on one of its alumni as she makes her Olympic debut in the 2024 Paris Games. 

Greater Atlanta Christian School announced its excitement in an encouraging video on social media, cheering on its very own Jasmine Jones, who graduated from the school in 2020, as she competes in the Women's 400-meter hurdles on Sunday.

"You're our hero," the school said in a post. 

Jones joins 31 other Georgia track and field athletes on the big stage in Paris. 

Her first event will be on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 6:43 a.m. If she makes it through the heats, the semi-finals will be on Tuesday, August 6, at 2:07 p.m. 

If she qualifies the finals will be on Thursday, August 8. According to the school, she is running alongside her USC teammate, Anna Cockrell.

"Jasmine's journey from GAC athlete and Georgia State Champion to the Olympics is a testament to her exceptional talent and unwavering commitment. The GAC community will cheer her on as she competes against the world's best athletes," officials with the school said in a news release.

More about this athlete: Jasmine Jones graduated from the Greater Atlanta Christian School in 2020 and is a senior at the University of Southern California.  

Jones qualified for the Paris Olympics on June 30 and made the U.S. team in women's 400m hurdles after placing third.

According to USC's profile on her, during her high school career, she was a 12-time Georgia state individual champion. During the 2020 indoor season, she ran 8.12 in the 60m hurdles, which was ranked first in the country among high school athletes and No. 7 in indoor prep history. 

She's now in her fourth season as a hurdler, sprinter and jumper on USC's track and field team. According to the university's website, she ranks 4th on USC's all-time 100m hurdles list, 7th on its 400m hurdles list and ran on USC's fourth-fastest 4x100m relay. She is also tied for third on USC's all-time indoor 60m hurdles list.
