Georgia Tech volleyball alum Julia Bergmann named to Brazilian Olympic team

Bergmann was a three-time All American while with the Yellow Jackets from 2019-2022.

ATLANTA — One of Georgia Tech's most decorated volleyball alums will have a chance to add to her career achievements at the Paris Olympics this summer.

Julia Bergmann was named Friday to the Brazilian Olympic team. Bergmann was a three-time All American while with the Yellow Jackets from 2019-2022.

Bergmann's odds of earning a medal will be good -- according to a release from the Tech athletics department, Brazil head to Paris as the No. 2 ranked volleyball team in the world, and they won silver at the Tokyo Olympics.

Bergmann, Tech's release said, is the first Olympian in the volleyball program's history. She is also the most prolific scorer in Yellow Jackets history, with 4.31 kills/set.

The school's release added:

Bergmann earned her spot on the 13-player roster following a strong performance in the Volleyball Nations League earlier this summer. She played in seven matches over the month-long tournament, finishing with 39 kills and 11 aces along with five blocks. She proved herself to be a weapon from the service line, going off for four aces and 12 kills in Brazil’s Week 3 victory over Poland, a part of her very strong finish to the tournament (26 kills and 10 aces in her final three VNL matches).

Brazil's first volleyball match in Paris is scheduled for July 29 against Kenya at 7 a.m. ET (1 p.m. local time in France).
