Here's how Douglasville's Katelyn Abeln did in her Olympic event today

The 23-year-old Douglasville native took on her second Olympic event today.

PARIS, France — Katelyn Abeln, an American Olympian with Team USA shooting, took on her second Olympic event today: the women's 25m pistol. Between the two qualification events - precision and rapid - Abeln eked out the eighth and final spot in Saturday's final. She will be the only U.S. athlete in the final.

Abeln, a Douglasville native who is 23 now, started sport shooting when she was 12 and qualified for Team USA in both air and sport pistol events.

That final is set for 3:30 a.m. ET on Saturday morning.

 Earlier this week, she competing in the 10m air pistol event and finished 24th in the qualifying stage, not continuing to the finals.

Abeln is a member of the Ohio State University pistol team. She was was an alternate for Tokyo 2020 and before that a silver medal winner at the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships.

Abeln was also the 2023 gold medal winner at the USA Shooting National Championship in 25m sport pistol, and won gold in the same event at the 2024 Championship of the Americas Games.

She also earned a bronze medal at last year's U.S. national championships in 10m air pistol.
