PARIS, France — Nic Fink, fresh off a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke at the Paris Olympics, got a special congratulatory phone call Monday night.

The UGA grad heard from none other than the chief Bulldog himself, football coach Kirby Smart, in a video call taken while Fink was interviewing with another Dawg, NBC journalist Maria Taylor.

Fink, who also got a master's degree from Georgia Tech (the Dawgs aren't holding that against him), tied for second in the 100m breaststroke final on Sunday. In their brief chat, Smart told him he also competed in the breaststroke in high school.

"I was up, man, watching that," Coach Smart told Fink about the race.

The swimmer responded laughing, "I'm happy to continue that legacy then, the Georgia breaststroke legacy."

Smart added about Fink's race: "You finished that thing strong, that was a great race."

Taylor put in an early word for national championship tickets for Fink, as well.

"We gotta get there first and you know that," Smart said, scolding with a laugh.

And, of course, between Smart, Taylor and Fink, there were more than a few "Go Dawgs" exchanged.
