ATLANTA — An Olympic hammer thrower is training at Kennesaw State University and gearing up for a national competition on Friday.

Daniel Haugh has been braving winter mornings for practice alongside his training partner, Isaiah Rogers, at the university. Both NCAA champions, Haugh and Rogers, share a decade-long friendship and a drive for excellence.

"It’s great to have someone in the trenches with you who understands," Haugh said.

With their sights set on the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships in New Mexico, the duo remains focused on their ultimate goal - winning.

Throwing is not just about strength; it's a precise science. Assistant Track and Field coach Mike Judge meticulously analyzes every frame of their practice sessions, recognizing that even a centimeter's difference can determine success.

"It, too, is the difference between breaking the world record or getting second place at this meet," Mike Judge, Assistant Track and Field coach at Kennesaw State University, said.

And after that, it's time to be laser-focused on the Olympics in Paris, which is only six months away.

"You see that 2024, and you say this is the year you’ve worked for, you know," Haugh said.
