Paris Olympics | List of athletes with Georgia ties competing Friday

PARIS, France — Looking to cheer on some Georgia-tied Olympic athletes on Friday? Check out the Peach State representation on Friday, Aug. 2.

3x3 Basketball

  • Rhyne Howard
    • Plays for WNBA Atlanta Dream
    • Matchup: US v France, women's pool round; US v Canada, women's pool round
    • Time: 7 a.m.; 12 p.m.

Result: Howard scored the winning shot for Team USA in overtime against Canada in the 3x3 game lead to the final score of 18-17.

  • Dearica Hamby
    • From Marietta, went to Norcross High School
    • Matchup: US v France, women's pool round; US v Canada, women's pool round
    • Time: 7 a.m.; 12 p.m.

Result: Hamby and Howard, along with the rest of Team USA's 3x3 team, won their game against France by one point, 14 - 13. The U.S. women are now 3-3 in pool play, with a final pool match against China on Saturday, August 3 at 1:05 p.m. -- a win would send them to the playoff round.

Golf

  • Sepp Straka
    • UGA graduate
    • Matchup: Men's individual stroke play round 2; competing for Austria
    • Time: 3 a.m.

Result: Straka shot a second-round 74, three over par and bringing him to 1-under for the tournament, tied for 35th place. He is 10 strokes off the co-leaders at 11-under.

Shooting

  • Katelyn Abeln
    • From Douglasville
    • Matchup: 25m pistol women's qualification precision; 25m pistol women's qualification rapid
    • Time: 3 a.m.; 6 a.m.

Results: Abeln placed 8th out of 40 in qualification, earning the last qualifying spot for the final. The final is Saturday, August 3 at 3:30 a.m.

  • Vincent Hancock
    • From Eatonton 
    • Matchup: skeet men's qualification day 1
    • Time: 3:30 a.m.

Results: Hancock is ranked first after three rounds on Day 1 of qualifying. Day 2 of qualifying is Saturday, August 3 at 3 a.m. ET.

Soccer

  • Caleb Wiley
    • Atlanta United player, grew up in Atlanta
    • Matchup: US v Morocco, men's quarterfinal
    • Time: 9 a.m.
  • Walker Zimmerman
    • From Lawrenceville, Brookwood High School
    • Matchup: US v Morocco, men's quarterfinal
    • Time: 9 a.m.

Result: Wiley and Zimmerman, along with the rest of Team USA soccer, lost their match against Morocco on Friday. The score was 0-4, and the U.S. men are now out of the tournament and will not win a medal.

Track and field

  • Denzel Comenentia
    • UGA graduate
    • Matchup: men's hammer throw qualification, competing for Netherlands
    • Time: 4:10 a.m.; 5:35 a.m.

Result: Denzel Comenentia recorded a best throw of 74.31 meters, placing him 14th in qualification. That was not enough to advance to the final as one of the top 12 throwers.

  • Daniel Haugh
    • St. Pius HS, KSU graduate
    • Matchup: men's hammer throw qualification, group A
    • Time: 4:10 a.m.; 5:35 a.m.

Result: Daniel Haugh had three no-throws in the hammer competition, resulting in a no mark (NM) and ending his Olympic journey.

  • Elena Kulichenko
    • Current UGA junior
    • Matchup: women's high jump qualification, competing for Cyprus
    • Time: 4:15 a.m.

Result: Cleared 1.92 meters in qualification, tied for seventh best, to advance to the final as one of top 12 qualifiers. The high jump final is on Sunday at 1:55 p.m. ET.

  • Tatiana Gusin
    • UGA graduate
    • Matchup: women's high jump qualification, competing for Greece
    • Time: 4:15 a.m.

Result: Cleared 1.92 meters in qualification, tied for seventh best, to advance to the final as one of top 12 qualifiers. The high jump final is on Sunday, August 4 at 1:55 p.m. ET.

  • Jasmine Moore
    • Was at UGA for two seasons before transferring
    • Matchup: women's triple jump qualification

Result: Recorded 14.43 meters, longest jump in Group A and third longest in qualifying to qualify for final. The triple jump final is Saturday, August 3 at 2:20 p.m.
