PARIS, France — A former University of Georgia track and field athlete jumped for gold -- and became an Olympic champion on Thursday.
Tara Davis-Woodhall jumped 7.10 meters to secure the women's long jump title, earning her first-ever Olympic gold medal.
The 25-year-old was at UGA for one season before transferring to the University of Texas. During that one year, Davis-Woodhall broke Klaudia Siciarz's world under-20 record in the 60-meter hurdles at 7.98 seconds during the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Who is Tara Davis-Woodhall?
This was her second Olympic Games, as she placed 6th in the long jump in Tokyo in 2020. According to Team USA, she broke the American junior record for the indoor long jump at the Dumanis Sports Group Prep Classic in Frisco, Texas in 2017. She was also named Ventura County Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2017.
The youngest of five siblings always tried to bring a cowboy hat to meets to represent the University of Texas. And her relationship with her husband is bringing all the butterflies for those watching the games as photos show them lovingly celebrating her win. She's married to Paralympian Hunter Woodhall, whom she met in 2017 at a track meet during high school.
Congrats on the win, Tara! Georgia is cheering you on.
