ATHENS, Ga. — The coach for Simone Biles, the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympic history, is coming to the University of Georgia to teach gymnastics.
Biles' coach and Hall of Fame USA Gymnastics coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi was previously named co-head coach for UGA's gymnastics program with Ryan Roberts, who has been the past six seasons as an assistant coach at Alabama and Georgia, according to a release from UGA.
After the U.S. women's gymnastics team won gold in the team final on Tuesday, Canqueteau-Landi took to social media to express her pride in Biles and the rest of the "Golden Girls" team.
"Beyond proud of them. Last night was everything they’ve worked for and more," she wrote on Instagram.
The Georgia Bulldogs also posted on social media, "Congratulations to our future co-head coach Cécile Canqueteau-Landi and Team USA for winning a Gold Medal!"
Canqueteau-Landi competed for France at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She currently coaches at the World Champions Centre.
"Throughout my life, gymnastics has provided me some extraordinary opportunities, from traveling the world and competing for my country at the Olympics to coaching amazing athletes at the highest level," Canqueteau-Landi previously said. "Those experiences have helped me become the coach that I am while putting athlete's well-being first and helping them reach their full potential. I am thrilled for the opportunity to be the new co-head coach of the GymDogs with Ryan. I am looking forward to work with team in the near future! I would like to thank Josh Brooks, Stephanie Ransom the entire UGAA staff for this opportunity."
