Here's how UGA and Georgia Tech grad Nic Fink did with Team USA in the final men's swimming event of Paris Games

It was a close finish in the men's 4x100m medley relay.

PARIS, France β€” It was a tight race for the men's 4x100m medley relay, and Team USA came in second place. UGA and Georgia Tech grad Nic Fink completed the second leg in the pool to help USA secure the silver medal.

Along with Fink for Team USA in the relay were Ryan Murphy, Caeleb Dressel and Hunter Armstrong. They finished with a time of 3:28.01.

Here's a look at the close finish.

China dethroned the US with its win.

The U.S. had won gold in the event at every Olympics other than the boycotted Moscow Games in 1980, the Associated Press reports. Even though Team USA landed on the podium, it was a disappointing finish in Paris for Caeleb Dressel. The silver medal is his first non-gold Olympic medal.

This is also one of the final swimming races of the Summer Games. The women closed out right behind them, breaking a world record in the final swimming event of the Paris Olympics.

More about this athlete: Athens was where it started for Fink – competing at UGA. He became an Olympian by competing at his first Games in Tokyo, where he placed fifth in the 200m breaststroke.

After the Summer Games in Tokyo, Nic moved to Georgia Tech to pursue a master's degree in computer and electrical engineering. There, he also trained with the team.

Two-time gold medalist and Georgia Tech swim head Coach Courtney Shealey Hart talked about her experience coaching Fink.

β€œHe was a very good person to lead by example in his training. And really was specific with his training and loved training and shared that with our group which was awesome," Hart said.

Fink has gained a name for himself before the Olympics with his decorated World Championship experience. He holds at least 20 World Championship medals, including 13 gold medals.

He and his wife, Melanie -- another Olympian from UGA -- will soon welcome their first child.
