Primetime nears for Sha'Carri Richardson, other sprint stars | Full women's 100m schedule

The women's 100m competition gets underway on Friday.

PARIS, France — When do Sha'Carri Richardson and the other stars of sprinting finally run at the Olympics? Sooner than you might realize.

The first runners in the women's 100m event will get off the blocks as early as Friday morning (Eastern U.S. time).

There's a preliminary 100m round that neither Richardson, the 24-year-old reigning world champion from Texas, nor the other more competitive sprinters have to compete in. But soon after will be Round 1 (more commonly known as the heats) Friday morning, with the women's 100m semifinal and final due to take place on Saturday.

It's going to be a whirlwind couple of days for Sha'Carri Richardson fans. Here's the basic rundown of the schedule.

Women's 100m event schedule details 

  • Preliminary round: Friday, August 2 at 4:35 a.m. ET (10:35 a.m. local time in Paris)
  • Round 1 (heats): Friday, August 2 at 5:50 a.m. ET (11:50 a.m. local time in Paris)
  • Semifinal: Saturday, August 3 at 1:50 p.m. ET (7:50 p.m. local time in Paris)
  • Final: Saturday, August 3 at 3:20 p.m. ET (9:20 p.m. local time in Paris)

As one more additional note: Many of sprinting's biggest stars will also compete in the 4x100m relay, though the precise start lists for those events are not yet available.

The heats for the women's 4x100m begin on August 8 (5:10 a.m. ET) and the relay final will be the next day, August 9, at 1:30 p.m. ET.
