ATLANTA — The Atlanta Open announced Thursday who will play in the Champions Challenge during its final tournament at Atlantic Station this summer.
Officials said former champions John Isner and Andy Roddick will compete against the Bryan brothers, Mike and Bob Bryan, in the doubles match on Monday, July 22, at 7 p.m.
“The Atlanta Open is thrilled to welcome back these legendary champions for another match under the lights on Stadium Court at Atlantic Station,” Tournament Director Peter Lebedevs said.
Former world No. 1 Roddick earned one of his 32 career ATP titles at the tournament in 2012. He also reached four Grand Slam finals during his career, including winning the U.S. Open in 2003. Although he primarily played singles, Roddick also won four doubles titles in his career and was a member of the 2007 Davis Cup-winning team with the Bryan brothers.
Meanwhile, Atlanta Open stats show Isner is the winningest player in the tournament's history, with six champion titles. The former Georgia Bulldog was previously ranked world No. 8. Isner also won eight doubles titles in his career and was ranked as high as Nov. 14 in the world in doubles.
Additionally, twin brothers Mike and Bob Bryan have played for over two decades, winning an Open Era record 119 titles, including 16 Grand Slam championships. They were ranked No. 1 in the world from February 2013 to October 2015. During that time, the Bryan brothers won gold at the 2012 London Olympic Games, in a moment that became known as the "Bryan Golden Slam." They also went on to win the next four majors: the 2012 U.S. Open, the 2013 Austrian Open, the 2013 French Open and Wimbledon in 2013, the release stated.
“As we celebrate 15 years in Atlanta, it’s important to showcase the incredible tennis history of this tournament and this city. John Isner, Andy Roddick, Bob Bryan, and Mike Bryan are American tennis icons and we can’t wait to see them back on the court celebrating the great tennis fans of Atlanta," Lebedevs added.
