ATLANTA — Atlanta native Ben Shelton, 21, faced off against Frances Tiafoe, 26, in Friday's third round of the U.S. Open tennis championships in New York.
Shelton took the first set with a score of 6-4 against Tiafoe. Tiafoe returned and took the second set with a score of 7-5.
The third set ended in a tiebreaker, where Shelton fired a 143 mph ace to clinch the third set.

Last year, at just 20 years old, Shelton made tennis history when he reached the 2023 U.S. Open semifinals— the youngest American man to get that far since Andy Roddick in 2003.
