Wynn picks up Georgia offer he wanted

College football scholarship offers often go out to prospects after camps during the summer, and that’s exactly what happened for strongside defensive end Stephon Wynn (Anderson, S.C./T.L. Hanna) when he worked out for the Georgia Bulldogs coaches in Athens recently.

“I worked out for them on that Sunday at camp and Coach [Kirby] Smart offered me a couple hours after that,” Wynn said. “He said he liked how I play, my motor, my potential and the upside I have. They didn’t say which position they want me at, but a lot of people think I’ll grow into a defensive tackle.”

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive lineman in the 2018 class had been hoping the Bulldogs would offer.

“I really like them,” Wynn said. “I’ve been wanting a Georgia offer for a while now and I’m pretty happy I got it. I really like how Coach [Tracy] Rocker coaches his guys and how his defensive lineman play.”

The Bulldogs have been highly successful with Wynn’s position group in the past, which is a big part of his interest in Georgia.

“Georgia is known for putting defensive linemen in the NFL and that’s a goal of mine,” Wynn said. “I’d like the opportunity to play in the NFL one day. That’s something I think about. Georgia always one of the best defenses in the country.”

Along with Georgia, Wynn said he regularly hears from Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State and Penn State. In total, he holds 22 offers.

For now, Wynn plans to stay open to all schools involved in his recruitment.

“I haven’t really picked out a top ten or anything like that yet,” Wynn said. “I’m just looking at each school right now. A little bit later I’ll pick out my top schools. I’ll probably commit during my senior year, maybe right before or right after.”

As a sophomore, Wynn recorded 75 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 4 sacks and 2 blocked field goals.
