ATLANTA — With core issues tackling climate change, environmental justice and sustainability at the forefront, many organizations around the metro are celebrating Earth Day on April 22.
From picking up litter to planting trees and removing invasive species, there's a whole lot for folks in the ATL to get involved in.
Some organizations have even been celebrating a week in advance with -- Earth Week.
Here's a list of events happening in metro Atlanta:
On Earth Day
Poderosas Earth Day Park Cleanup
The civic and social justice organization will hold the event at Morningside Nature Preserve Park, located on Lenox Road.
It will start at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 22. The event is open to the public, but those who are planning to attend should register here.
Hands-on Atlanta Hank Hollow Garden
Although Hand-on Atlanta is always looking for volunteers for its Hank Hollow Garden, it is asking for more on Earth Day.
It is located in metro Atlanta and begins at noon and ends at 2 p.m. Volunteers will help beautify and maintain the public greenspaces.
Those who are interested can sign up to be a volunteer here.
Earth Day Take-Home Event at Dogwood Library
This Earth Day event is more kid-friendly, where parents will be able to stop by Dogwood Library located on Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy.
Parents will then take home a craft for their child to put together and enjoy. Parents can start picking up the crafts starting at 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Atlanta Sustainability Showcase at Ponce City Market
Residents can join Ponce City Market at the iconic Rooftop Terrace for the showcase, which will show a forefront of environmental innovation and sustainable practices in the Peach State.
According to event organizers, it's a movement geared towards "a greener, more sustainable future."
Tickets are selling for $30, with just a few left.
After Earth Day
Global Paint for Charity, Inc. Earth Day 2024 Cleanup
This event is open to the public and will be held on April 27 starting at 9 a.m.
Global Paint for Charity expects over 3,000 volunteers in Gwinnett County. The event will be at Coolray Field, located on Buford Drive in Lawrenceville.
Residents can drop off recyclable items such as paint, electronics, tires and more.
Chattahoochee Riverkeeper Atlanta Cleanup event
This event will happen on May 4 from 9 a.m. until noon.
Organizers have not released the exact address to the public but said it will be inside the perimeter near the Chattahoochee River.
They are also encouraging interested parties to register as volunteers ahead of the event. Click here to register.
3rd Platoon Earth Day Cleanup event
This event will happen on April 27, starting at 9 a.m. at Oak View Elementary School in Decatur.
The Mission Continues will be hosting the event where everyone will "roll up their sleeves and make a lasting impact on the community."
Organizers said volunteers will be painting and repairing the outdoor classrooms, removing the old garden, installing planter boxes and more.
