ATLANTA — Extended dry weather across the region has resulted in ripe conditions for wildfires in north Georgia, where several have sparked up and burned in recent days.
The Georgia Forestry Commission noted on Sunday, Nov. 5, that there were several active fires in areas such as Dade County, Walker County and Gilmer County.
"Please be extremely cautious with anything that could potentially produce a spark - it is extremely dry!" the Forestry Commission wrote on Facebook.
The commission is also currently tracking and publishing wildfire data. As of Monday morning, Nov. 6, there were at least three active fires between Walker and Dade counties, south of Chattanooga. One of those, the Highway 157 fire in Walker County, had spread over 1,400 acres and was roughly 50% contained. It started back on Oct. 21, and has 15 personnel assigned to it.
