HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — One person was airlifted to the hospital early Friday morning after a wreck on Interstate 75 south in Henry County.
The three-car wreck happened just before Jonesboro Road and it caused all lanes of traffic on the interstate to shut down.
The 11Alive Skytracker saw the incident causing a major backup on the roadway around 5:30 a.m. The interstate appeared to be completely reopen by around 10 a.m.
At the time, Henry County Fire told 11Alive one person had to be airlifted to the hospital.
In an April 21 update, Henry County Police said that person was in serious, but stable condition. Police said three other people, one driver and two passengers, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to officers, a 2009 BMW 328i was traveling south on I-75 near mile marker 221 when witnesses said it started weaving in-and-out of traffic at a high speed. That's when it collided with a 2009 Toyota Camry in the center lane.
The Toyota spun out of control and hit a cement barrier "several times" before coming to a rest back in the center lane. The driver in the BMW car was ejected and then pinned under their vehicle after spinning out of control through a ditch and into the woods.
An incident report said police contacted Piedmont Henry Hospital on the conditions of the driver and both passengers in the Camry, who told authorities all three were in stable condition. Atlanta Medical Center told officers the driver of the BMW was also stable.
Police said families have been notified and the crash is still under investigation.
