Lanes reopen after truck bursts into flames under bridge at I-75 ramp to I-285

The bridge looks to be charred and will likely need to be inspected before it is reopened.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A truck fire caused major backups Thursday morning in Cobb County and a bridge is being inspected following the damage it may have caused.

It happened on the Interstate 75 southbound ramp to Interstate 285 around 5 a.m. It took crews nearly 90 minutes to completely put the fire out. Flames were seen shooting as high as the roadway above it.

Most of the fire was out by 7 a.m., but the smoke continued to be smoldering. The bridge looks to be charred and will likely need to be inspected before it is reopened.

"Our crews continue to work with @GADeptofTrans to clean up the wreckage and will have the road closed until the structure is inspected for safety," the Cobb County Fire Department said.

GDOT said around 10 a.m. that the lanes reopened.

It is part of the new interchange in Cobb County near Truist Park and the Cobb Galleria.

Drivers were urged to use Highway 41 or Cobb Parkway as an alternate.
