CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities have identified the people involved in an accident in Clayton County that killed at least one person on Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff Victor Hill initially reported online that a crash had happened near the intersection of Highway 85 and Poplar Springs Road. Georgia Department of Transportation cameras, while not at that intersection, did show an accident a short distance away at Adams/Allen Drive and Highway 85.
Sheriff Hill suggested that the crash had killed two as he warned motorists to avoid the area. The Georgia State Patrol later clarified that one person had died and two others were taken to area hospitals.
According to the state trooper's accident report, the crash happened around 3:45 p.m. when 80-year-old Ollie Riddick of Riverdale was traveling north on Highway 85 and attempting to turn left onto Adams Drive.
Authorities said 36-year-old Jamall Brown of Atlanta was heading south on the same stretch of road and struck the passenger side of Riddick's vehicle. The passenger in the struck vehicle, 78-year-old Gladys Golden of Riverdale, was killed in the crash.
Authorities said Riddick was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and Brown to Atlanta Medical Center. The state patrol report suggests there were three people in each vehicle but doesn't mention any possible injuries among the others.
The Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is handling a follow-up investigation as investigators continue looking into who was at fault in the crash.
Charges are still pending and the official report in the accident isn't yet complete.
