TRAFFIC | Multiple issues on I-85 North, wrecks and backup with wet conditions in the early morning

Rain across metro Atlanta has created slippery conditions out there.

ATLANTA — Wet weather has moved across metro Atlanta early Friday morning, creating slippery conditions on the roads.

Be careful out there, with multiple wrecks and other incidents so far. They've caused major slowdowns on several of the interstates.

Here's what you need to know:

Metro Atlanta traffic, Friday, Oct. 20

  • I-85 North

Multiple lanes closed with a wreck before Cleveland Avenue. It appears some traffic is getting through after all lanes were earlier closed, but there's backup extending as far as Virginia Ave.

  • I-85 North

Multiple lanes blocked in Gwinnett before GA-316. Backup almost as far back as Indian Trail Lilburn Road.

This incident now has a estimated clearance time of 10 a.m. - and it's been getting pushed back periodically.

Georgia State Patrol said: "Troopers responded to a 4-vehicle accident on I-85N near GA 316. A box truck overturned causing the two right lanes of I-85 to be closed due to debris on the roadway. Gwinnett Fire responded to the scene to assess for injuries and the two occupants of the box truck were transported for medical evaluation due to injuries. CHAMP is on scene for traffic control and Willard Tow Company is on-scene clearing the roadway. MCCD is en route to assist with the commercial vehicle. TRIP has been activated."

  • I-20 East

Stalled car just past Lawton Street adding to a lot of congestion here.

  • I-20 West

A wreck in the Stonecrest area has caused a major slowdown and backup on I-20. It happened past Lithonia Industrial Blvd. and had three out of four lanes blocked at one time. It was causing backup into Rockdale County, past Turner Hill Road.

UPDATE: This has cleared.

  • I-85 South

A wreck before Pleasantdale Road has caused a slowdown and there are stop-and-go conditions all the way up to Old Norcross Road. At Pleasantdale Road itself, there are also a lot of people trying to use the I-85 frontage road to get around things, creating a bit of a bottleneck.

UPDATE: This has cleared. Still pretty high volume though going down I-85.

  • I-285 West

GDOT is reporting a stall that has two lanes blocked before North Shallowford Road. It's causing a slowdown as far back as Buford Highway and also impacting people trying to get on the interstate from Peachtree Industrial Blvd.

UPDATE: This has cleared.

  • I-75 South

One lane is blocked due to a wreck at Delk Road, causing  some touch-and-go issues up toward the Marietta Loop.
