ATLANTA — UPDATE: All lanes have reopened, though backup still stretches back as many as eight miles and will take some time to normalize.
Original story below
A major traffic headache on I-285 North on the Westside Perimeter has continued into Tuesday morning, after a tractor trailer carrying liquid latex caught fire the night before and originally started the situation.
The incident occurred just before Campbellton Road and Langford Parkway on I-285 in the Greenbriar Mall area late Monday night.
Crews were still working to clear the situation as of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The best thing you can do if you commute in that direction is not get on I-285. Here are some traffic tips you can follow this morning:
How to get around I-285 traffic
11Alive Traffic Tracker Crash Clark recommends the simplest and most direct way to get around things - take I-75/85 North through to the Downtown Connector and then take I-20 West back to I-285.
If you're coming from off the interstate, you can also take Ben Hill Road outside the perimeter up to Fairburn Road and on up to Campbellton Road, where you can back on I-285 just past where the stoppage occurred.
If you're inside the perimeter, you can also try to get to Campbellton Road - though that too is slowing down this morning. Ben Hill Road (different one) can also take you up past Campbellton to Cascade Road, where you can get on I-285. You might want to try going up to Cascade also if you normally take Campbellton Road to I-285 from the east.
