Person killed after being struck on I-285 while trying to cross road on foot after stalling out

All northbound lanes of the highway were stopped between I-20 and Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy.

ATLANTA — A person was struck and killed early Friday morning on I-285 on the westside Perimeter.

According to police, the individual was struck by another driver as they tried to cross the interstate on foot, after their car stalled out and they attempted to reach the other side of the road to read a sign.

Police said the driver who struck the person remained on scene. Neither person has yet been identified.

I-285 North on the westside Perimeter was completely shut between I-20 and Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy. for a number of hours following the incident. The I-20 West ramp onto I-285 North was also shut.

Other traffic issues Friday morning included I-20 West shutting for a time near Six Flags due to an overturned car, and multiple lanes on I-75 South at I-675 closing for a while due to a jackknifed tractor trailer.
