TRAFFIC | Midtown Atlanta wreck cleared after causing major backup

It happened early Wednesday morning.

ATLANTA — UPDATE: This wreck has cleared.

Original story below

A wreck in Midtown Atlanta has caused major southbound backup Wednesday morning through the upper part of the Downtown Connector and through I-85.

The wreck happened just past 14th Street. There was no immediate word on any potential injuries in the incident. Video from the scene indicated a mail truck was involved.

As of 7 a.m., traffic cameras showed two left lanes blocked off on the interstate in Midtown.

The backup was most acute on I-85 coming into Midtown, with backup all the way up to North Druid Hills Road. I-75 South and GA-400 South were also seeing some backup as they approached Midtown as a result of the wreck.

A Georgia Department of Transportation 511 notice had the estimated end time for the situation as 8 a.m. The issue was originally not expected to last that long, and it was unclear what extended things.
