Portion of Briarcliff Road reopened in DeKalb County after water pipe repair caused partial closure

11Alive SkyTracker video shows work being done on a portion of the road near Stephens Drive.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A portion of busy Briarcliff Road in DeKalb County has since reopened Friday after water pipe repairs impacted traffic in the morning.

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management posted an update on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter that the repairs to the water pipe were complete. They also noted that customers in the area may notice brown water but are encouraged to run their faucets.

11Alive SkyTracker video showed the work being done on a portion of the road that appeared caved in earlier.

It was intially unclear if the repairs was a result of normal construction activity that has been ongoing in the area. The Georgia Department of Transportation had it classified as road construction with an "anticipated end time" of 3 p.m.

DeKalb County announced earlier that its Department of Watershed Management crews were working at the site to repair a section of water pipe that had been "damaged by a contractor not affiliated with DeKalb County."

Traffic initially was being routed in segments at the area through one remaining open lane - one stretch of cars allowed northbound, then a next stretch of cars allowed southbound - though DeKalb later said another lane had reopened for both directions of traffic to pass through.

11Alive has reached out to county officials for more information.
