COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Crews worked to extinguish two brush fires on I-575 south on Monday, according to Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services.
For several hours, lanes were closed as firefighters responded along I-575 near Barrett Parkway.
Cobb Fire said it had seven units and two Marietta Fire Department units also helped to put out the flames.
"Interstate brush fires are challenging due to the terrain and access to water. Crews are working diligently to quickly extinguish the fires and reopen the interstate," Cobb Fire said.
In an update, fire officials said the flames are under control.
Earlier in the evening, 11Alive's traffic expert, Crash Clark, said drivers could use Highway 5 as an alternate route for those heading out of Kennesaw. Drivers could also take Bells Ferry if they were heading from Woodstock.
