ATLANTA — The Atlanta City Council has approved a task force to examine ways to solve congestion on neighborhood streets in Buckhead.
This move comes after years of complaints about commuters traveling into residential areas on their way to work and then back home again.
There are times when homeowners are trapped in their driveways; resident Robin Morgan sees the worst of Moore’s Mill Road from her front yard.
“We have sidewalks but it’s very scary to use those sidewalks because of the traffic and the speed of the traffic,” Morgan said.
The twenty-member task force will work on potential solutions.
A study by Livable Buckhead found that the number of vehicles traveling through Buckhead has increased by 76% since 2009. The same study reports that 92% of the people working in Buckhead commute into the area from somewhere else.
The task force will include members of local neighborhood groups and other organizations who will collaborate with city representatives.
“All neighborhoods are different,” Debra Wathen, who will represent the Buckhead Council of Neighbors, said. “Each one is unique, so they’ll each have a voice, and the right people will be listening.”
The task force will begin meeting once a month as all members are chosen. The city expects their work to wrap up by late August.
