Pedestrian killed after car crashes into sidewalk and hits power pole in DeKalb, police say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A pedestrian is dead after a car crashed into the sidewalk and hit a power pole in DeKalb County on Friday, according to the police department.

According to Georgia Power's outage map, the power outages affected approximately 436 people. As of Friday afternoon, the map shows that power has been restored to nearly everyone impacted. 

In an update, DeKalb Police said the pedestrian was killed after the car crashed and hit the victim on the sidewalk. The driver of the car that crashed was also taken to the hospital for medical treatment, police added. The extent of the driver's injuries has not yet been released. 

The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, where police said he died due to his injuries.

The DeKalb Police Department's traffic specialist unit is taking over the investigation and is still looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
