DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — One person is dead following a crash on Interstate 20 in DeKalb County early Friday morning, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
It happened near the Moreland Avenue exit in the southeast part of the city; officers said two cars were involved. Investigators said a utility truck was parked on the right shoulder when a white sedan merged from the rightmost lane and veered towards the utility truck, where it crashed.
Police said the sedan came to a final rest in the left lane. Once EMS arrived, the driver was pronounced dead. Atlanta Police said no one was inside the utility truck at the time and that the two people who occupied it had gotten to work on light fixtures.
An investigation is still ongoing and police have not identified anyone involved. At one point, police had all lanes closed to clear the crash and investigate.
Crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation were called to the crash around 4:45 a.m. but roads were not open until around 8 a.m.
