2 hospitalized, multiple lanes of I-285 eastbound shut down after crash involving overturned tractor-trailer in DeKalb County

Georgia State Patrol is currently on the scene.

ATLANTA — Multiple lanes of I-285 Eastbound are shut down, and two people are in the hospital Monday morning due to a tractor-trailer crash in DeKalb County, according to Georgia State Patrol.

According to GSP, the tractor-trailer was traveling west on I-285 when the driver began "fishtailing and losing control of the vehicle," hitting the concrete wall and causing it to shatter.

Troopers added that debris from the concrete wall fell into the eastbound lanes and hit a two-passenger vehicle and another truck traveling eastbound.

The debris also caused a second crash involving two other passenger vehicles that were both trying to avoid the concrete debris, crashing into each other, according to GSP.

Both of the drivers were taken to the hospital, GSP said.

11Alive's SkyTracker flew over the scene, where the tractor-trailer was flipped over on its side in the westbound lanes. Next to it, the concrete median appeared to have been smashed, as though the truck went straight through.

In the eastbound lanes, a couple of other wrecked vehicles were also seen.

According to GDOT's website, crews are expected to be on the scene until noon.

For the time being, Georgia State Patrol is on the scene investigating.
