WALTON COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a crash that shut down 138 between Rowe Road and Michael Etchison Road on Monday, the Walton County Sheriff's Office said. The wreck happened on a bridge, which managed to sustain some damage.
Because of this, a DOT inspector will examine it.
According to Georgia State Patrol, a Toyota Scion was driving east on Highway 138 and crossed the center line, crashing into a Chrysler PT Cruiser head-on.
After the impact, the Scion crashed into the bridge railing on the north shoulder of Georgia 138 while the PT Cruiser impacted the south bridge railing, according to GSP.
Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman mentioned that the red car was on the railing of the bridge after the crash.
The drivers of both vehicles were transported to hospitals by ambulance but neither had life-threatening injuries.
At this time, GSP said no drug or alcohol impairment is suspected of leading to the crash.
Chapman said there are often wrecks on this particular stretch of road, with some of them being deadly.
He added that the bridge and road can't handle the amount of traffic they get and the road in particular needs to be widened to four lanes.
