Woman taken to hospital after dump truck pins her car in crash

According to DeKalb County Fire Captain Jaeson Daniels, it took crews a while to safely rescue the woman due to the conditions surrounding her being pinned.

ATLANTA — A woman has been rescued after being trapped in her vehicle following a crash involving a dump truck in DeKalb County, according to the county's fire department.

They added that the accident happened on Rogers Lake Road and South Deshon Road around 1 p.m. Video from 11Alive SkyTracker shows the dump truck on top of a vehicle and firefighters at work.

According to DeKalb County Fire Captain Jaeson Daniels, it took crews a while to safely rescue the woman due to the conditions surrounding her being pinned. At first, Daniels explained that the dump truck on top of her vehicle needed to be lifted and removed to make sure the situation was safe for those trying to rescue her.

He added that she was actually upside down and trapped under the dashboard. What made lifting the truck extra difficult, Daniels said, was the condition of the soil in the area, which was so saturated and moist that the truck settled into the ground.

Daniels added that, at this time, there is no clear indication of who is at fault but that more information should come as police investigate the crash. However, he did mention the driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Meanwhile, the woman in the car was helicoptered to the hospital due the magnitude of the situation but Daniels said she was talking and able to move he limbs.

When asked about the road the accident happened on, Daniels remarked that it was indeed on the slim side and the fire department has responded to a number of accidents on it.
