FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. — If you are headed up to South Carolina Tuesday morning, you'll want to be aware of a major red alert.
A vehicle fire shut down Interstate 85 in both directions in Franklin County for several hours. Around 6:30 a.m., the northbound lanes reopened. As of 9 a.m., one southbound lane was open. The Georgia Dept. of Transportation said the lanes should be clear by 10 a.m.
GDOT said a seven-mile stretch of the highway was closed in both directions between Lavonia and Carnesville during the cleanup.
